Justin Doggett of Kyoto Black, a Kyoto-style cold brew coffee creator and supplier, joined us and our community for a Zoom workshop yesterday to introduce us to the science of cold brew coffee, describe how he got started in the business, and show us some recipes for how to enjoy cold brew coffee.

Chicago Market's Vision includes the word "connected" and this spring the Board launched a new team that has the goal of connecting you with your food, even now before we're an open grocery store.

Chicago Market is committed to the Seven Cooperative Principles and Principle #2 is Democratic Member Control. Owners exercise their rights each year in part by attending the Co-op's Annual Meeting, held this year on August 30 on Zoom. For several months, we've been talking about our new feasibility study. We retained Firebrand Cooperative, a co-op consulting group, to help the Board decide whether the Gerber building was the right place for us - and more broadly, whether Chicago Market as we envisioned it was even possible to build. We now have the results of that work. 

Earlier this week, our contingent of board of director candidates gathered for an online Q&A session moderated by past Board member Jen Vest. Here are some of the questions the candidates answered during the wide-ranging 2 hour session:

Torriente Toliver of Mind Body Defense, a kickboxing and self-defense school located in the Buena Park neighborhood, joined us and our community for a Zoom workshop to introduce us to home kickboxing workouts. We stretched, punched, kicked, weaved, and worked up a sweat!

An Owner raised some concerns with the Board via email recently and we replied, but also felt like we should share our answer more broadly.
