Volunteer Opportunities with Chicago Market - A Community Co-op

We're excited to be on our journey to getting the store open! There's still a long way to go and we need your help, whether you are an Owner or not. When we get closer to opening the store, we will hire a General Manager who will staff the store. And we have consultants helping guide the design and build process for the store. But the rest of the work of getting more Owners, building our community and letting the world know about Chicago Market is all being done by our wonderful volunteers.

You can contribute by volunteering at events, doing small tasks online, joining one of our teams, leading a team or taking on a longer-term responsibility for helping cover social media, keeping the site clean or other activities. Our volunteer needs cover a mix of in-person or at-home projects, strategy work, and getting out to spread the word.

MORE meeting

You can attend one of our upcoming MORE meetings (Marketing & Owner Recruitment and Engagement) and see where you might lend a hand. Chicago Market’s MORE (Marketing, Owner Recruiting and Engagement) committee meets every other Tuesday. Our team’s job is to figure out and execute effective ways to spread the word about Chicago Market…encouraging people to become Owners and otherwise engage Owners – just like you – to become a more active part of our Co-op community.

Marketing Campaign Designer

Help create Chicago Market marketing campaigns in support of the Owner Growth Campaign. Work as part of the MORE (Marketing, Owner Recruitment, and Engagement) team helping shape the Chicago Market marketing messages. Marketing experience required.

Blog Editor

The Blog Editor is responsible for the content, preparation, and posting to Chicago Market's blog.  

Duties include developing and soliciting items for posting and editing contributions.  He/she will manage volunteer freelance writers for assignments, deadlines, and editing and will work closely with the MORE (Marketing/Owner Recruitment & Engagement/Events) Team Newsletter Editor, MORE Social Media Manager, and MORE Communications Lead to coordinate content across platforms.

Ideally, this person is a rockstar project manager, is creative, and is willing to help produce (film/edit or ideate) dynamic content such as video for multiple content platforms.

Organizational participation and leadership (primarily online but some offline) are integral to the Newsletter & Blog Editor’s success. He/She will be part of the MORE (Marketing, Owner Recruitment/Engagement, and Events) team working with other MORE Communications Team members to ensure a cohesive and scaled communications strategy. This position will also work closely with our talented volunteer graphic designers and freelance writers.  The MORE team meets monthly in-person, regularly via conf call and daily via online project management tool Basecamp.

Graphic Designers

The person for this role is active on Facebook and experienced with managing Facebook Pages and Paid Ads and will work as part of the MORE (Marketing, Owner Recruitment, and Engagement) team. Social Media Lead

The Social Media Manager is a highly motivated, dedicated, creative individual with communications/social experience and a passion for connecting with current and future co-op Owners. That passion comes through as he/she engages with our community on a daily basis, with the ultimate goal of nurturing followers into Owners. The Social Media Manager will lead a team of Social Media Ambassors.

The Social Media Manager will administer Chicago Market’s social media presence, including (but not limited to):

- Strategic communication planning and goal setting

- Continue building organizational awareness and online reputation

- Cultivation of online/social ideas to drive our Ownership base and grow our audience size 

- Responding to (or directing) online inquiries from Owners, prospective Owners and the community at large 

- Compelling content development and execution

Content management duties include:

- Creation and publishing of relevant, original, high-quality content

- Implement a content editorial calendar to manage content and plan specific, relevant messaging themes.

- Amplifying ongoing events and initiatives through social (ie Facebook events, posting strategy, cross-tagging partners, stimulating audience awareness and engagement)  

- Communicating the co-op in a positive, authentic way - improving communicating progress and projects with our wider community  

Ideally, the volunteer for this position is: 

- Familiar with evolving best-practices across social platforms (primarily Facebook, Instagram, Twitter but also LinkedIn, YouTube)

- Design-savvy with the ability to create visual posts leveraging design assets, and/or video tools (ie Instagram stories, short video editing)  

- (Preferred, but not required) Knowledgeable about paid Facebook/Instagram strategies including audience targeting through custom and lookalike audiences, as well as how best to leverage various Facebook paid objectives

Event Planning Lead

Lead event planning and execution for Owner Growth social events designed to raise awareness, consideration of and buying in as an Owner. These roles will be key to the Owner Growth Campaign (the Grow in "Grow, Fund, Build.") strategy our MORE (Marketing, Owner Recruitment, Engagement) team by coordinating logistics for meetings and events. Recent examples: dinner @ Kal'ish restaurant, film screening @ REI, Lena Rose Salon beauty night, monthly Owner Meet-Ups at local bars & coffee joints.

House Party Lead

Recruit, Coordinate, and Support Chicago Market Owners in holding house parties to encourage their friends to become Owners. Experience with party and event planning and working with volunteers is helpful.
