There's a lot to learn about one of Chicago Market's newest Owners. Introducing...Laura Levitan, Owner #1282!
Tell us your full name – as well as who else shares your fridge.
My name is Laura Levitan. I share my fridge with my husband Toby, who is largely responsible for filling it. Our two dogs, Tubbs (aka Flubby) and Sonny (aka Whiskers Kobyoshi) share our home, if not our fridge, much to their chagrin.
What motivated you to become an Owner of Chicago Market?
While I have always applauded your mission, supporting the Co-op's move to the Gerber Building was the motivating factor to officially become an Owner. I’m thrilled that you will be in the space and want to do what I can to ensure it happens!
What type of work do you do?
I work in business development for a law firm. While it is not the sexiest career, it's more interesting than the name implies. I work with firm management to grow the business through direct client acquisition, lateral recruiting (i.e. hiring people who have business) and the development and marketing of services lines.
What else is really important to you…and why?
I absolutely love to travel. The picture above is from my husband and my honeymoon to South Africa/Zimbabwe. We saw lion cubs, which was life-changing.
Is there something new you’d like to learn or pursue…either now or someday?
I would love to learn how to quilt. I have a sewing machine but lack the skills – or knowledge – to do anything with it beyond turning it off/on.
Do you have a favorite food or “signature dish”?
My favorite thing to eat is probably pho, which is convenient since I live in Uptown. My signature dish is lasagna. My mom and I made it together for every special occasion when I was growing up, a tradition that I am continuing.
What’s your ‘one wish come true” for Chicago Market? It might be a product for our shelves, a program you’d like to see us offer, a location – you name it!
Anything family-friendly that I can take my niece (5) and nephew (2) to!
What three words best describe you?
1. Loud (talking)
2. Friendly
3. Loyal
