Co-op Love

Growing our #CoopLove

Chicago Market needs 1500 Owners to put ourselves in a position that allows us to secure our eventual site and our financial future. You may have seen on our Facebook, Twitter or Instagram pages that we’re campaigning right now for 50 new Owners by the end of 2016.

What we’ve learned is that the most effective way to reach and attract new Owners is through … you. Think for a moment: You know people who’ve shopped at or been part of other food co-ops elsewhere. Whose interests might align with ours, and who’d enjoy being part of our lively, values-driven community. We’d have to pay a lot of money to find and target these folks independently. But you can make an introduction, and we need your help.

Please take 5 minutes today and send an email or message to 5 of your friends who might want to know more. It can be as simple as, “Hey, I’m part of this great growing community in Chicago that’s starting a food co-op and I thought it might interest you. Here’s some more information if you want to check it out, or visit their website at www.chicagomarket.coop.”

Then add your story in a sentence or two: why do you support Chicago Market? That’s what will really drive their interest.

Copy [email protected] on your note, and (only if they have questions or reply, we promise! No spam!) we’ll get in touch with them directly to follow up.

Easy! And you can visit our blog for 5 more easy things you can do to help Chicago Market grow and spread the #CoopLove.

At the Movies with Chicago Market

Chicago Market Owners #542 Jeff and Jennifer Spitz have made a movie and a movement with their award-winning documentary film, Food Patriots.

Chicago Market hosts a free screening of the film on January 21, at REI Co-op in Lincoln Park. Jeff will join us for discussion. And of course we’ll have popcorn! – from our friends at Tiny but Mighty.

THE FUTURE OF FOOD

Chicago Market Owner #148 and writer Annette Mambuca joined food writers, policy wonks, activists, culinary professionals and everyday foodies at a one-day conference on "The Future of Food," sponsored by Edible magazine this October. She found a few other Chicago Market Owners there, too! Here's her terrific summary of what they learned.

Annette Mambuca

What does the future of food hold?

If you’re a Chicago Market Owner, the answer is clear. Sustainable. Local. Transparently sourced. Community-minded. Equitable. Delicious (natch!).

Our co-op may be well on the way to amending some local ills, but nationally and globally there are still some fairly formidable forces to overcome.

Board Changes

Chicago Market says “thank you!” to Owner #15 Tony Neuhoff, a longstanding supporter who leaves our board of directors but will continue to stay closely involved as a leader on our Legal, Regulatory & Licensing team. And we welcome back to the board our Founder and Owner #1 Greg Berlowitz. Read more here.

An End of Year Note

Board member and Owner #43 Karen Jacobs shared an end of year note on our blog this time last year, and she’s updated it here. Check it out and share her story — and yours! — with everyone who should become part of our movement.

Chicago Market Gifts!

You can share your #CoopLove and help others find out about Chicago Market by purchasing a t-shirt, water bottle or yard sign. Owners can also purchase totebags (psst! Owners are entitled to one free totebag…if you don’t have yours yet, let us know and we’ll get it to you, pronto!).

Merchandise

Still looking for a great gift idea for a lover of local, sustainable food and community you know?

Buy them a Chicago Market Ownership! We’ll put a card in a pretty envelope and deliver it to you (or them) in time for the holidays, or you can add some extra fun by purchasing it in a gift basket with other Chicago Market goodies.

If we get to our goal of 50 new Owners by the end of the year, we’ll have an $50 REI Gift Card and an REI Co-op membership ($20 value) to give away to one of these new Owners, too!
