Local author (and proud Chicago Market Owner!) Heather Lalley’s book, The Chicago Homegrown Cookbook, captures the cooking and personality of some of the city's most well-known chefs through stories, photographs and delicious recipes for all seasons while sourcing local ingredients. Those delicious flavors will come off the page in this hands-on cooking class at Read It & Eat featuring a number of dishes sourced from the Chicago area.
In this November 5 class, participants will learn to make Spiced Organic Carrot Soup (from Bruce Sherman of North Pond), Homemade Saltine Crackers (from Jason Hammel of Nightwood) and Minted English Pea Risotto (from Sean Sanders of Browntrout). The ticket includes a special cocktail prepared by Heather and participants may bring their own beer or wine.
Heather Lalley is a Chicago Market board member who left journalism in 2007 to go to culinary school. Today, elbows deep in flour, she bakes bread, regularly updates her flour girl blog, writes on a freelance basis and follows the local food scene.
