Chicago Market would like you to meet Kim Jean (affectionately known as Miss Kim), founder and owner of Mossum (moss + yum), maker of edible algae sea moss. Sea moss is an amazing 100% natural, nutrient dense, sustainable food that is vegan, low calorie and full of good stuff! Kim Jean will be present at our next SHOP event on June 20th to tell you more – but until then, here’s a little bit about Kim and Mossum.

Kim recently reached out to us to tell us a bit more about her company and her products and swung by one of our SHOP events to chat and provide us some samples. I’ll be the first one to say I didn’t know a thing about sea moss! But once she started telling us, not only her personal story but the story of Mossum – we were hooked!

Kim was born and raised on the beautiful island of St. Lucia and has been eating sea moss her whole life. Her mother told of its wonders and served it up in a milk drink that was both spicy and delicious. This product was an island secret and after conducting some initial research Kim was blown away by the nutritional benefits. Sea moss's macro minerals include calcium, magnesium, phosphorus and potassium and also micro minerals like iron, zinc, iodine, manganese and selenium​​​​, PLUS vitamins A, B, C, D, E, F & K. But she knew that for people to want this product, she needed to make something tasty and delicious that combined this amazing ocean algae with ingredients from the trees and the land.

This is where Kim’s journey began with Mossum. She knew that for many people, healthy products must also be convenient – so she painstakingly conducted her own research through questionnaires, focus groups, street fairs, expos, grocery store testing and more – and that is how the Mossum brand came to be what it is today. Kim developed crackers, truffles and more containing this wonderful ingredient. They are the beauty and soul of the Caribbean, alongside sea moss’s valuable minerals and vitamins – in each bite!

Kim knows that we at Chicago Market love tasty, healthy products and thought we might be a good place for her to get the message out about her unique and interesting products.
