Chicago Market Newsletter — December 2023
Happy Anniversary!
It's an historic day — Chicago Market's home
turns 100 TODAY!
The new, large station was formally opened to the public on December 12, 1923 with much fanfare, as featured in the Chicago Daily Tribune article below. Designed by Arthur U. Gerber, the Beaux-Arts style building was constructed of brick and tile with white terra cotta facing. It included Gerber trademarks — laurel-framed cartouches, globed lights, and a majestic scale.

Chicago Market is thrilled to steward this historic building and proud to have the full support of the Illinois State Historic Preservation Office.
