Community Meeting: Chicago Market at CTA Wilson Red Line

Wilson Community Meeting

Join our public meetings to learn more about Chicago Market, A Community Co-Op, to hear about our bid for the retail space at the CTA Wilson Red Line Station, and to share your feedback. Chicago Market's elected Board of Directors and our site team will share information about this iconic space, the RFP process, and ways in which the community can support our bid. We want to hear from the community, gather your input and answer your questions.

The gorgeous Beaux-Arts-style Wilson CTA Red Line station (aka the Gerber Building) was designed by architect Arthur U. Gerber in 1923, and was considered to be the hub to the north side's renowned entertainment district during the Jazz Age. Now, as part of a $203 million CTA restoration which moves the train station across the street, we are ready to take advantage of this one-time-opportunity to make this historic blue-speckled terra cotta building Chicago Market's home. We love this space for its accessibility, its unique history, its size, and its ability to deliver on our mission to create a local, sustainable and connected food community.

As we enter our bid for this beautiful building, competing against national fast food stores and other chains with deep pockets, we need your show of support more than ever. We are working with Alderman Cappleman’s office, our commercial real estate brokers, our architect and designer, and our Uptown community partners to craft the best professional and community-oriented proposal. We believe our community-owned grocery store will make the Wilson Station a destination like no other.

The community meeting is open to all members of the public. Please RSVP below.

Add your name to our petition of support to show the CTA how many households want a healthy, affordable and locally-owned grocery store to open in this space.

Become an Owner: If you’ve been waiting to become an Owner of Chicago Market, now is the time. Together, we can strengthen our bid for this historic neighborhood icon. We have 900 Owners and counting, and we must reach 1500 to make this project a reality. Want to bring a healthy, affordable and locally-sourced food options to your community? Join us today.

About Chicago Market: Chicago Market is a community-owned grocery store that exists to rebuild the connection between food producers and consumers. The store vision is to provide a friendly, first-class shopping experience that is open and accessible to everyone.
