Since Chicago Market was founded, one of our guiding principles has been democracy and shared decision-making. That's what sets cooperatives apart from other businesses, and it's what will make Chicago Market different from most other stores.
We've already put that shared decision-making into action: you elected a board of directors, which has been diligently working to open Chicago Market, and many of you are working as volunteers to help us reach our goals.
Now it's time for an important milestone: Our first Owner meeting.
Every year, Chicago Market will hold a meeting of all its Owners. At this year's meeting, members of the board leading working teams will report to you on progress and goals. We'll introduce a new board member, Lance Rantala. We'll update you on the search for a location for Chicago Market, and we'll tell you about some awesome new initiatives (and rewards for Owners!) we have planned as we go into fall and winter.
You'll exercise your democratic power, as you vote on Chicago Market's inaugural set of bylaws.
You can buy Chicago Market merchandise. You'll get to ask any questions you want of the Board.
Oh, and we'll also have some food and drink from our local food partners. It can't be all work, right?
The meeting is on October 18, from 3pm to 5pm at the Ravenswood Event Center (which has been an incredible supporter of Chicago Market, and is where we hosted last fall's gala). All Owners are welcome and encouraged to attend.
Help us to keep Chicago Market growing, and join us as we celebrate what we've created together and plan for the future.
