Back Your Co-op

With our exciting announcement in January that Chicago Market is staying at the Wilson stop’s historic Gerber building, your Board has been preparing store design and opening plans. And it’s time for your help!

We need Owners and other community members to back your Co-op at whatever level you can to help us meet these near-term needs and set the foundations for the rest of our build out! In the next few months, the Co-op will start paying for exciting things such as an architect for schematic design, the final portion of our security deposit as we secure our site, and soon enough the salary for a general manager.

At the one-year mark of a pandemic that has shut down beloved businesses, restaurants, and more, we hope that our Co-op is part of a long-term solution for addressing stability in our local food system, but we recognize that there are immediate food needs in our community. In alignment with Cooperative Principle #7 - caring for community - Chicago Market will be redistributing 7% of all donations received to Lakeview Pantry through April 30.

Give what you can, if you can, and back your Co-op and your community!

Your donations can be one-time or recurring, AND, they can even be tax-deductible.

Join Us In Some P5

Co-ops follow seven cooperative principles and Principle #5, nicknamed P5, is a commitment to education. So recently we've been using our social media channels to educate our community on all things general manager - the role, the responsibilities, and also the ways in which OUR general manager will need to be unusually qualified in order for us to succeed.

If you've missed these posts, we collected them for you here. They're fun, short bites, so check 'em out and learn more about your Co-op!

New Items in March at SHOP!

Our SHOP team is always working to bring you new things from our local producers and this month we bring you bitters from our Business Owner The Bitter Ex Bitters Company for your cocktails and baked goods, sparkling water, ice cream concoctions and other culinary experiments. And our farmer friends at Pecatonica River Honey have added some amazing soaps. From Activated Charcoal to Citrus Splash to Gardeners Soap (even a soap called Monkey Farts!).

SHOP online today for pickup on March 21st from 11am - 3pm at Chicago Market (Wilson and Broadway).

New - Open House + Owner Tote Bag Pickup

Would you love to just come walk around inside our future store? We don't blame you - it's pretty inspiring.

During our monthly SHOP pickup hours, we welcome drop-ins. Check out the historic staircase; dream about where all the fresh, local produce will go; and ask our team any questions you may have. Plus, our SHOP team always has some of their items for sale on the spot.

And if you haven't received your Owner tote bag yet, stop in for that and start carrying it proudly over your shoulder to tell the world YOU OWN a grocery store!
